It is hot here in Ivybridge today! So hot, that I've had to give up on sitting in my office and have migrated downstairs where it's like 2'c cooler.

The installation comes as London experiences unusually high temperatures for June. According to Kew Gardens, more than 400 trees across the site died during the extreme heat of the summer of 2022. While most were removed, this red oak remains in place to highlight the impact of rising temperatures on the natural environment

Palestinian children are "increasingly unprotected", as Israel forces human rights organisations to cease or curtail work across the occupied Palestinian territories, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child warned on Monday.

The committee condemned Israel's designation of civil society groups as "terrorists".

Europes heatwave drives electricity prices to new highs as demand soars.

The heatwave has prompted a sharp rise in electricity prices across European markets as millions turn to air conditioners and electric fans to battle record high temperatures, which have also caused a string of power plant outages across the continent.

The U.K. needs a faster transition from fossil fuels to electric to meet its 2030 emissions target, experts advising the government have said, with "credible plans" missing for over half the remaining cuts pledged.

An independent United Nations commission of inquiry has concluded that Israeli authorities and security forces deliberately targeted Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip, resulting in genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

With these murderers, every accusation is a confession. They claimed that Hamas uses human shields, while they themselves parade Palestinian civilians as human shields for the world to see.

"To crop or not to crop" is the question.
I like details on those, but most people won't zoom in to look (plus bsky will probably make them mushy)
But tight crop rarely looks good.

Thousands of schools cancel classes before recod-breaking heat

S had been reading about Eleanor of Castile, queen of Edward I, who died in Harby, Notts. in 1290 CE. Edward walked 200 miles with her body to Westminster Abbey in London, later erecting a memorial cross at each of 12 places the cortge rested overnight. The Eleanor Cross in Geddington near Kettering, Northamptonshire, is 1 of 3 surviving & best preserved, although the surmounting cross that saw it reach over 12m in height was destroyed in the 1640s (1). Also of note, the village bridge over the River Ise was built c.1250 CE, but due to its 2m width restriction, we forded the adjacent ford in our Ford (2).

The warm afternoon was spent sorting a blocked grey water outlet, with help from friends in Leicestershire. Wed tried tank cleaner, bailing out the tank (3) & prodding the release valve from the inside to no avail. Following a tip from the Die2Mays on YouTube () we then used a section of garden hose pressed onto the small outside drain to blow back into the tank (simultaneously occluding the overflow pipe from inside), which succeeded in clearing the blockage (4).

Before I go.

If you're in a position to do so, don't be afraid to put some water out for your bin-men. The cabin isn't as big as you might think, and whilst we all have water in our bags, sometimes we run out especially on long and ridiculously hot days.

Finding a few bottles of water on top of the bin (unopened obviously), not only allows us not to die, but it also makes us feel the warm fuzzies inside.

Anyway, enough. I'm gonna go now. If you hear from me again then I've survived. If not, so long and thanks for all the fish.
